This Sunday (Dec 5th), at 9pm, you’re invited to share a listening session with some likeminded souls, wherever you might be. This can be experienced either alone or communally, and you don’t need to leave the comfort of your own home to participate.
For my 50th blog post, I’m going to return to the ‘My First...’ theme that was so well received (‘My First 12”’ and ‘my First X’, both back in July), and ask an even more obvious question – what was the first record you ever purchased (the one you paid for with your own money, rather than it being bought for you – be it 7”, LP, 12” or CD)?
A great new book, documenting the London based dance publication, Soul Underground, is now available via DJ History. ‘Catch The Beat’ spans the pivotal years 1987-1991, as UK dance culture was breaking out of its previously specialist confines and coming right into mainstream focus.
Just returned from my third trip to Japan in the past couple of years, flying into Osaka for my first gig in the city (at Sound-channel) before taking the bullet train to Tokyo for two further appearances, at Seco Lounge on the Saturday and, forty eight hours later, Grassroots.

Living To Music continues to inspire insightful comment, the most recent session being ‘Hounds Of Love’ by Kate Bush. Next up it’s a return to the daisy age with De La Soul’s Hip Hop classic ‘3 Feet High And Rising’, which provided a key element of the soundtrack to 1989’s ‘Second Summer Of Love’. The session, as ever, will take place on the first Sunday of the month, in this case December 5th, at 9pm.
