Mr. Brainwash

LA based Mr. Brainwash has really got the art world in a whirl – some still believe he’s a lucky man who made the grade, whilst others suspect a puppet who can see the strings. Behind all the smoke and mirrors you’ll find the Bristolian street art enigma himself, Banksy, whose wonderful Academy Award nominated documentary ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ (2010), casts Thierry Guetta / Mr. Brainwash as an unexpected cause célèbre.

His exhibition at London’s Opera Gallery on New Bond Street kicks off today and runs until October 31st:

‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ has been showing on More4 during recent weeks – catch it if you can. Further info here:

Thanks again Greg, for putting this under my attention! I did see Exit through the giftshop as soon as it was released and now I remember I wanted to google Mr. Brainwash, but I never did… Love it! Grtz.from Amsterdam

G, We finally got round to watching the copy of Exit Through The Gift Shop that you sent us. Thanks! Fascinating stuff! I’ve never seen anything quite like it! I’m surprised that I’d never heard of Mr Brainwash before. I guess in this ‘culture of steam’ that we now live in, it is so easy to miss things. Sometimes great art and music just passes me by. So cheers for blogging about this, and sending the documentary! The doc itself is art in its own right. Captivating! I watched it with Naomi… We had to keep stopping the film, to discuss it. So many topics for debate, which is what art should generate.
