It’s taken a little while, but we’re finally ready to release some new material on the Super Weird Substance label. Watch out for a spate of digital releases in the coming months, but in the meantime, to kick things off we have the 2nd in the limited vinyl ‘Substance Select’ series, this time focusing on a single artist, the Serbian band Bella Technika with 4 tracks included – 3 remixes and an unreleased original.

20 Choice Edits & Reworks 2019
Now in its 8th year, 20 Choice Edits & Reworks is a personal selection, based on new interpretations of tracks I’ve been playing during the previous 12 months. These don’t include official remixes of older tracks (for example, Joey Negro’s excellent update of ‘Can’t Live Without Your Love’ by Tamiko Jones this year), reflecting the more underground nature of the edits scene, where DJs share their work either digitally or via limited vinyl pressings. The full selection is available to stream via SoundCloud: Continue Reading →
A&R Edits Reactivated
The limited-edition A&R Edits label returns to vinyl after a 4 year gap, the last and 9th release in the series appearing back in 2015 – previous edits courtesy of Henry Greenwood, Derek Kaye, Sophie Lloyd, F.A.M.E, Fingerman, Peza and Twisted Soul Collective. The new release, a collaboration between Henry and myself, couples ‘Disco Mondo’ with ‘In The City’, and is available to purchase here via Juno:

Credit To The Edit Vol.3 Vinyl Twin-Pack
Following on from the ‘Credit To The Edit Vol 3’ CD release on Tirk earlier this year, we’re pleased to let you know that 8 of the tracks have been pressed to vinyl – 2 discs, 2 tracks per side.
Substance Select
After having to put the Super Weird Substance label on the backburner for a while (although we were still very much active with last year’s ’14 Hour Super Weird Happening’ and the ‘Alan Moore’s Mandrill Meets Super Weird Substance At The Arts Lab Apocalypse in Liverpool’, we are now in the process of recalibration – the first step being this limited-run 12”, featuring 2 tracks previously released on the label that sold out of existing vinyl supplies, with a demand building since, plus 2 more never previously available on vinyl. The record can be ordered here:

Credit To The Edit @ Sound City
My latest Credit To The Edit compilation, volume 3 in the series, is issued next month – I’ll do a full post about the album and its contents once available, but, in the meantime, wanted to draw attention to the first in a number of Credit To The Edit parties I’ll be hosting, both in the UK and overseas, throughout 2018.
Peza – The Other Lee Perry
In January 2012 I received an email from Lee Perry. My first thought was ‘surely not’, but it wasn’t – this was the other Lee Perry, not Scratch but Wolverhampton’s very own Peza.
A 14 Hour Super Weird Happening
On April Fools’ Day our record label, Super Weird Substance, is hosting its most ambitious event to date – a 14 hour long Happening that takes over The Florrie, a stunning Grade II Victorian community heritage venue in Liverpool.
20 Choice Edits & Reworks 2016
Here’s this year’s selection of ’20 Choice Edits & Reworks’. It’s the 5th annual list I’ve compiled.
