Getting My Dylan On

Looking deeper into Folk and Country music has been a case of overcoming the final prejudice in many respects. These were always genres I shied away from, even though I’ve happily cherry picked tracks that I’ve liked along the way. I suppose I dismissed Folk as antiquated, and Country as over-sentimental, and although I’ve had a basic understanding of their roles in shaping popular music, I’ve never had the inclination to look beneath the surface. Until more recently that is.

Lovely Lovely Ludwig Van

Just a few days after I’d mentioned one of my favourite piano pieces, Debussy’s ‘Clair De Lune’ (in the Hazy Cosmic Jive blog), I caught a great half hour programme on Radio 4 about another – Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, aka ‘The Emperor’, which includes the awe-inspiring second movement (Adagio). This was broadcast as part of the stations ‘Soul Music’ series. My wife had heard it a few days earlier and was raving about it, so it was bonus beats when it came on again whilst I was driving back from London.

My First X

Following on from the ‘My First 12”’ post, which has been receiving such a big response, can you remember what was the first X (or 18) rated film you saw? For people around my age and older this would have been at the cinema, for those a bit younger probably on video, and for those younger still on DVD (no doubt it’ll be via the internet for many people these days).
