Having been published as a yearly feature via the Secret Life website since 2012, this year we take 20 Choice Edits & Reworks in-house with all inclusions now available to stream via SoundCloud in a playlist with a running time of over 2 hours:
This years’ top spot goes to Sydney based Frankee More, who completely reworked Rufus & Chaka Khan’s 1978 single ‘Stay’, transforming it into a dynamic dance cut, whereas it was originally a much more downtempo affair, only ever played in the clubs during slow spots. Chaka Khan also scored big with her 2018 release, ‘Like Sugar’, one of my biggest tracks of the year.
Australia is a hotbed for the re-edits scene, 2 of its greatest exponents and the recent guests on my Credit To The Edit dates down under, Late Nite Tuff Guy and Dr Packer, are based there (in Adelaide and Perth respectively). Both are represented here, LNTG via his rework of Gino Soccio’s ‘Dancer’, which maintains his record of placing every year, whilst Dr Packer, following up on 13 entries in the past 3 years, adds another trio of reworks here.

Dr Packer is joined by the partnership of Henry Greenwood and myself, with 3 inclusions apiece. Henry is one of my regular Credit To The Edit guests, along with Peza and Derek Kaye, for European dates, and has previously topped the list himself, back in 2013, with his rework of Neneh Cherry’s ‘Buffalo Stance’.
Our old friends Get Down Edits placed 2 tracks, as did newcomers Mikeandtess, whilst Oliver Ferdinand, Shit Hot Soundsystem, Misiu, Andy Buchan, Alex Zuiev, Young Pulse, Moon Rocket & Re-Tide and Jarred Gallo are also represented. Full tracklisting is available with the SoundCloud playlist.
Special mention to a number of older edits that were also 2018 favourites for me – Flight Facilities (more Aussies), with ‘You Can Call Me Al’ by Paul Simon, Dave Gerrard’s ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ by the Average White Band, Rocknrolla Soundsystem’s ‘Funky Kingston’ by Toots & The Maytals, Jo Manji with ‘Wordy Rappinghood’ by Tom Tom Club, Chris Baron’s ‘Mama Used To Say’ by Junior, Combo & Tumble’s ‘Jazz Carnival’ by Azymuth and a couple more from Dr Packer, ‘Cocaine In My Brain’ by Dillinger and his 3-way mash-up of Taana Gardner, T-Ski Valley and De La Soul, ‘Buddy Caught The Heartbeat’.
